2008/2009 Season

Club Membership forms etc for the forthcoming season have been sent to Secretaries of existing Clubs and new Clubs wishing to enter the League.  These must be returned to the Registration Secretary with the appropriate fees by 8th August 2008.

Early indications show that there may be enough extra teams to form a Sixth Division.   While this is great news for the Sevenoaks League it poses a problem for the Committee.

Seven team divisions have been tried a couple of times before and experience has shown that this format is not popular.

With the present six-team format another division requires five more Sundays, making 30 Sundays.   Not including breaks for Christmas, Easter and Mothering Sunday means each division would meet on average once every 6 weeks.   This gap may not be to everybody's satisfaction.   At the recent Annual General Meeting a rule change was therefore passed to allow the Committee at its discretion to organise divisions on Saturday afternoons as well as Sunday afternoons.   A possibility, therefore, is to run Division 6 (or other Divisions) on Saturday afternoons.

It is recognised that this may be a problem for some players so on the form which lists the proposed players to be registered there is a question asking if the player does NOT want to play on Saturday afternoons.  Analysis of the results will determine whether Saturday afternoons is a workable solution or not.

If another suitable venue could be found offering Sunday afternoons then of course this would be a solution to the problem.
